Friends,

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the massacre at Jerusalem's Sbarro restaurant on 9th August 2001 that took the lives of fifteen innocent people.

The Jerusalem Post published an op-ed article today written by Frimet Roth. It's entitled "A nightmare that never ends". In it, she recounts the events of that terrible day:
Toward midnight, my husband followed a lead that led nowhere and came home with the message that the city’s social work department was arranging for someone from the family to go to Abu Kabir. It fell to my two eldest sons. I have no idea why my husband and I did not go. It’s a decision I still regret. An hour later they phoned. I watched my husband answer the call, saw his face drop, and knew our world had been destroyed forever.

Tomorrow, Wednesday 10th August, the annual charity bazaar in memory of Malki Roth and her friend Michal Raziel will be held, as in previous years, at the Ezra youth group building and the adjoining park in Jerusalem's Ramot neighbourhood (corner of Harry Truman and Abba Hillel Silver streets). Starting time is 4:00pm and the fun-filled, family-oriented event, will continue well into the late evening hours. As in the past, the proceeds of the bazaar will benefit Keren Malki and other worthy causes.

A second charity bazaar, held annually by the Maale Adumim branch of Ezra and in memory of Malki who was a youth leader in that branch, is also set for tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon and evening, 10th August 2011. If you are in the Maale Adumim area, we recommend paying a visit.

Finally, the annual azkara (memorial service) in memory of Malki and Michal will take place, according to the Hebrew calendar, next week on Friday morning, 19th August, at the girls' graveside in Jerusalem's Har Tamir cemetery. It's scheduled for 9.30am. Everyone is invited to join the family and friends.
