Rich
Whitney To Stop in Woodstock, May 21st
During Statewide Sustainable Transportation Tour
Green
Party gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney is embarking on a sustainable
transportation tour around our state, covering over 654 miles by bicycle
and public transit, visiting 19 Illinois cities and traversing numerous towns
and villages in 9 days from May 20-28, without using an automobile.
Why? To make a point about the need to embrace sustainable transportation and
to dramatize our need for a Green Capital Bill – a Marshall Plan-scale
program to phase out our reliance on fossil fuels and nuclear power and build a
clean, modern energy and transportation infrastructure.
An overview of his itinerary can be found here.
Friday, May 21st
Press Conference at 9:05 am
90 Church Street, Woodstock Metra Station
Mr. Whitney will arrive at the Woodstock
Metra Station at
9:01 am on the Union Pacific / Northwest Line via Arlington Heights. He will be
joined by Green Party candidates Scott
Summers for State Treasurer and Bill
Scheurer for Congress, District 8. They will hold a 15-minute press
conference before cycling to their next stop 3.7 miles away.
Tour of Other World Computing (OWC) from 9:45 - 11:00 am
2650 Bridge Ln, Woodstock, IL 60098
Mr Whitney, Mr
Summers and Mr Scheurer will be led on a tour of their Platinum LEED Certified
facility by CEO Larry O'Connor. OWC is the first technology
manufacturer/distributor in the U.S. to become 100% on-site wind powered by
switching its daily operations energy needs over to a Vestas V39-500 kW wind
turbine.
Mr Whitney and other cyclists will then travel to Rockford, via the Long
Prairie Trail. There will be a press conference in Rockford at 3:00 pm.
During his tour, Mr. Whitney will focus on the need for sustainable transportation
to combat both the disaster in progress known as global warming, and the
further economic crisis, also gradually unfolding before our eyes, known as
peak oil – or the end of the era of cheap oil.
