Scheurer Launches “Rising Tide Campaign”

April 20, 2010 (IL 8TH Congressional District)—Independent Green Party candidate for the U.S. Congress Bill Scheurer, today launched his campaign in the Illinois 8TH District currently represented by Democrat Melissa Bean. What sets this third-party campaign apart is its total commitment to social media.

Unlike traditional campaigns, their website does not focus on the candidate and his positions and bio. Instead, the site serves as a portal to leading social media networks – like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and others – where the candidate expects people to begin posting their own ideas for change.

“This campaign is about giving voice to a clearer vision of what needs to change in America,” says Scheurer, who gathered over 5% of the vote as an independent candidate in 2006. “People join this campaign to be part of that voice, not necessarily to elect one candidate over another.”

What needs to change in the opinion of Scheurer and his supporters is clear – what they call “the failed trickle-down economics experiment” of the past 30 years, which they consider to be a discredited theory something like the failed experiments in state socialism tried by other countries.

“A recent poll shows 4 out of 5 Americans do not trust their government,” says Scheurer. “We want to help people understand exactly why this is – because somewhere deep inside they sense that their government no longer represents them, but represents instead the interests that fund elections.”

Scheurer’s “Rising Tide Campaign” wants to spark a revival of “a rising tide lifts all boats” approach to economic policy, which built our once-thriving middle class and the greatest prosperity in the world. “This is not about opposition or blame,” Scheurer adds, “we tried something, and it did not work.”

The campaign points to such problems as stagnant income for working families, runaway trade and budget deficits, an exploding gap between the top and bottom rungs of society, and a decline of the middle-class, as some of the unfortunate results of the failed trickle-down economics theory.

Because these are national issues, Scheurer is calling on people all around the country to join the campaign. “Congress has only 435 seats, 435 voices, 435 votes,” he says. “We need every voice, every vote, we can get – it does not matter where you live – I want to represent you.”

The new campaign website is appropriately named:  www.RisingTideCampaign.com
