Causes and Solutions to Time Wasters You Might Have by Sandy Karn
If you're the High D person who gets pulled away from your focus, a typical cause could be your desire to solve problems, even when you don't have enough information to do so. There could also be an issue with your lack of interest in delegating tasks to others.
For solutions, create some standard operational procedures for common tasks and certain problems that will crop up. If you don't want to do this yourself, be willing to delegate this to someone you can rely on. You aren't the only one around who can get this job done. Sometimes, you'll even be the last guy on the totem pole to do this task effectively, even if you don't believe that's possible. :)
If you're the High I person who ends up in lunches that are too long, it could be because you see a long lunch as a networking possibility, or you get so excited about the conversation, you just forget the actual time.
A possible solution would be to set a specific time for lunch and make sure you stick to it! Another possibility is to have working lunches.
If you're the High S person who resists change, and isn't willing to do things in a new way, your ability to complete tasks is affected. Possible causes could totally be related to your high need to have security. You feel that routine systems have worked well in the past, so what's the point of changing them?
Your solution to this dilemma is to recognize right from the get-go that change IS a natural part of any job, anywhere. Take the time to evaluate any of your objections to change, and you might make different decisions.
If you're the High C person who prefers to wait for events to happen instead of initiating them, your natural fear of rushing into something that you are unprepared for, is showing. That seems like imperfection to you, and you naturally want to do things perfectly. Your need to maintain high standards could stop you from getting started.
The possible solution to holding back, could be to determine some most likely scenarios ahead of time, and pre-plan alternative solutions when possible.
When you identify a problem, then you can work on the causes and find solutions. If you don't do this, you probably aren't going to be able to optimize your results.
Wishing you the best in optimizing your results,
