QUIZ CORNER (\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)

1. 'IT ERECT CYNIC.' What is the twelve-letter word that
can be found by rearranging the letters in this anagram?

2. A man can paint a room in 4 hours, and another man
can paint the same room in 2 hours. How long would
it take to paint the room if they worked together?

3. Martin has a hand held circular saw.  If he uses a blade
with fine teeth, he can get a very smooth cut. Unfortunately
on long cuts he can miss the line where he wants to cut by
1/8" (1/8 inch).  If he clamps a long straight board on top
of the board he wants to cut to use as a straight edge, he
finds his hand held saw will leave a cut  5" from this board.

Sometimes the cut is more than 5", but if he goes over the
cut 2 or 3 times, he can get a smooth, very exact cut 5"
from the guide board.  He has a board 12" wide that he wants
to make 10" wide.  How can he do this?

The wish to acquire more is admittedly a very natural and common
thing; and when men succeed in this they are always praised rather
than condemned. But when they lack the ability to do so and yet
want to acquire more at all costs, they deserve condemnation for
their mistakes.

Solution to the Quiz Corner _(\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)_(\_/)_

1. Eccentricity

2. 80 Minutes

3. Choose the best edge of the board to use.  Clamp the guiding
edge down 5" from this edge so that the saw blade will be 10" away
from this edge.  Martin can now very neatly cut a 10" wide board.
