Yesterday the PPS school board sub-committee that is addressing the
immersion program issues met and discussed the superintendents
proposal for immersion programs.

In general, it looks like they are in full support of her
recommendations.
In particular importance to the Franklin community is support for
realignment of the Spanish immersion program that currently feeds from
Atkinson / Hosford / Cleveland to a Atkinson / Mt. Tabor / Franklin
feeder pattern.

In addition, I would note that it was made clear at the meeting that
immersion programs at the high school level are currently minimal and
only consist of a single class per 7 period day. It was stated that
due to this fact, moving a current program from one high school to
another could be a relatively easy transition.
It was I personally think we should, once again, raise the discussion
of moving the Japanes immersion program to Franklin. Not only would
this bring a relatively affluent and involved population to the
school, I see great value in keeping a whole program within a cluster,
as there are potential opportunities for elementary, middle & high
school programs collaborating through teacher relationships, student
mentoring and combined cultural activities which would be a great
asset to the overall program.

Just my personal thoughts.
