TWO ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE TENURE-TRACK PROFESSOR OPENINGS PURDUE UNIVERSITY
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN
is seeking applications for two assistant or associate level tenure-track faculty positions, one in
speech fluency, fluency disorders, or developmental speech motor disorders and one in adult
neurogenic disorders with primary focus on language and cognition. Researchers incorporating
diverse methodologies to understand disorders related to these areas are particularly encouraged to
apply. Primary criteria are excellence in research and teaching, and a commitment to advancing
diversity, equity, and inclusion. A Ph.D. in Speech, Language, or Hearing Science or a related field is
required. Essential duties include performing primary research in one of the desired focus areas,
teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and contributing to the climate of inclusion and
equity. The positions are 9-month appointments with an anticipated start date of August 2022.
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is a diverse and collegial department with
21 research/tenure track and 15 clinical faculty members. Research areas represented in the
Department include: Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Linguistics, Neuroscience, and Speech &
Hearing Sciences. The Department houses a thriving interdisciplinary community. Research-clinical
collaborations are encouraged and are facilitated by the M.D. Steer Speech and Hearing Clinic housed
within the building including the Preschool Language Program. Faculty in the department have
ongoing collaborations with other departments (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences,
Human Development and Family Studies, Linguistics, Psychological Sciences), on-campus
programs/centers (e.g., Institute for Integrative Neuroscience, Center on Aging and the Life Course,
Purdue Autism Research Center, Center for Research on Brain, Behavior, and NeuroRehabilitation,
Center for Families, Military Family Research Institute, and Center for Early Learning), and with
Indiana University-School of Medicine and local multi-level care facilities. Faculty lead two
interdisciplinary NIH training grants in Communication Disorders and in Auditory Neuroscience. The
Department has accredited and highly ranked clinical programs in Speech-Language Pathology and
Audiology, and awards Bachelors, Masters, Au.D., and Ph.D. degrees.
