I think if I ever want to grow Moso here, I would have to build a raised bed and only water it with rain water and that is too much trouble.
Like Y ou, after managing to kill a 1/2 dozen or so over a period of a few years (and most of them came from Marler Spence, so I KNOW they were nice plants when I got them):: I too used the Am. Sulphat, pure sulphur, and YOU name it.   So I just decided that NO MOSO for me.    It 'ain't worth it'..
One trick that I did learn from all of it, was if you HAVE to use Coop or city water, add a "shot' of vinegar to each gallon of water, and it will lower t he pH,  quite effectively..   Of course you can mix up 5 gallors or 55 :: the ratio is NOT too important..    Like in 55 gallons, I would probably just dump in one or two gallons of vinegar..     (Professional nursery folks put a drip of Sulfuric acid into the city water that they use to water their plants.)..  Most All city water has a higher pH, as most of them use Lime to as a clarifyier....     Goes back to Roman days, and maybe older.
