Just Three More Days: April 5th – Friday is the deadline for becoming a member of First Parish if you wish to be part of the vote to call Howard Dana as our next Senior Minister.

Here is a story MSC member, Alec Walker, wants to share:
“Elaine has described our First Parish community with affection as a “bucking bronco.” At lunch on the weekend when Howard and the MSC were looking one another over, one of the Committee members asked Howard how that phrase struck him.  Howard’s eyes sparkled, he tilted his head a little and he treated us to that big smile that comes so often.  Ask a farm boy from Montana that question.  “I know about bucking broncos,” Howard said. “It sounds terrific!”

Each week leading up to Candidating Week, the MSC will share information about a different aspect of Rev. Howard Dana’s ministry. This week’s: HOWARD’S REPUTATION IN THE WIDER UU WORLD.

We’ve already shared that Howard’s Harrisburg congregation was sited in 2010 by the UUA as a Breakthrough Congregation for innovative solution to expansion by buying a second church building in the city and incorporating a more diverse neighborhood into its church community.

Howard was also picked to participate in the UUA’s Dreaming Big <http:/www.uua.org/career/ministers/transitions/dreamingbig/index.shtml>, a development program that selects promising ministers in our denomination and trains them to be ministers at large UU churches. This is an indication that Howard is seen as a rising star by the UUA. Minister Emeritus Gary Smith is one of the members of this development team. You can read more about Dreaming Big on the UUA Web site. Or, ask Howard about it during Candidating Week.

Please remember to look over Howard’s new Web site, which you can access directly from the MSC FP Web site page. You will need to click “login” in the upper right of the screen.

This Web site houses all the packet materials Howard sent the MSC so that we could get to know him better during the search process.

Candidating Week is just 3 weeks away!
April 28th – May 5th when you’ll get to meet Howard and ask him your own questions.

MSC meeting minutes are posted on our First Parish Web Site page.

Best,  Toby
