The MSC uses several terms taken from the UUA Settlement Handbook. In case these terms are unclear, here are definitions:
PRE-candidate: A minister who is in essence one of several finalists for the position of Senior Minister. This means the MSC has already reviewed their initial ministerial records, packets and conducted interviews with each via Skype. This process helped us identify three pre-candidates. However, each of our pre-candidates may also be a pre-candidate at other churches. So while we are hosting each pre-candidate for a weekend visit this winter, each pre-candidate may be making similar weekend visits to other UU churches.
Candidate: Assuming the MSC reaches consensus on a single minister, that person then becomes our candidate for the position of Senior Minister and comes to First Parish during Candidating Week (April 28- May 5, 2013) to meet members of the congregation and preach two Sundays. Only the FULL congregation can vote to call our next Senior Minister. That vote takes place Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 12:30 PM. According to our bylaws, only members who have signed the book by April 5th may participate.
Important Note: It is possible that the candidate we first select receives multiple offers and accepts an offer from a different church. If this occurs, the MSC would then determine whether we want to put forward one of the other two pre-candidates as our candidate. If we decide NOT to put forward a different candidate, then First Parish would hire a new Interim Senior Minister for one-year and elect a new search committee to launch a new search next year.
