to Fireground Action Photography
Im frequently asked to attend and shoot the training sessions, and
training photography represents a reasonable percent of what I do,
perhaps 25-30% of all images.
Whats great about training is the ability to shoot at a relaxed pace
images that you might not get during the entire year. For instance,
my 3 days at Suncor refinary result in more fire imagery than I get in
a typical year, and the fires are lit an relit, thus adjustements can
quickly be made if a shot is missed, and techniques can be tried
without risk of missing the only fire shot.
One training session about to occur will be ice rescue, something Ive
never seen in the field but will be able to shoot during training,
with 3 different days planned during Jan, and 4 sessions each day, 2
in daylight, 1 twilight, and 1 at night. I am hopefully to try some
off camera flash lightning, triggered remotely, at the night session,
which gives me a great chance to play.
In addition to images that I might not get, and the ability to ask for
"take 2" if I need something, the training is beneficial to the
photographer, as the more the photographer trains at getting various
images, the more comfortable the photographer will be on scene of
actual incidents and getting the shot right then!!!
