I've read all 11 stories.. :) very engaging! :) 1 issue that you've
brought up 2 times is that folks couldn't get aid for college(Carl &
Blue) because they owned their own homes. As a financial aid counselor
type the reason that Carl wouldn't be able to get aid is because he
wouldn't be able to because of his mother's job because he couldn't
demonstrate that she had had completely abandoned him, abused him or
was estranged from him and therefore would have to count her income
and that of her new husband. A CPA's salary even in rural TX would
undoubtedly be too much to be eligible for grants. Blue would have a
similar issue. I only mention this because your story is really good
and if you were to republish it might help. :) Please know that this
is in no way a "flame." (Except if you like it when they hold up the
cigarette lighters at a concert to show approval.)
Note though that even Mr. Trump's dependent's would qualify for
student loans in their own names at s level just high enough to take
care of most community college tuition...

Thanks for your comment, and the info. Blue's situation was supposed
to be that he didn't get a choice, not a college aid problem, but
owning his property and house would be the same. I worked and got
grants in the 1970s. At the time that was more than my yearly pay at
my first job doing medical research. Now I think it leaves the kids
needing more just to cover tuition. The Basic grant was what I got
back then, about $6,600 a year. I think it became the Pell Grant. My
niece, as an independent adult get the maximum- $4000+ more than 30
years later. We've lost our priorities.
