Hello there friends!

My purpose in writing to you is multifold.  As many of you know, I will be part of a short term mission trip this May 5-13 with my church here in Gainesville, Gator Christian Life.  Last year we took our inaugural trip to La Ceiba, Honduras to serve alongside Iglesia Gran Comision, a Great Commission Latin America church.  After a wonderfully faith-stretching and God-honored time we are heading back!  We are thrilled to have a team of 18 men and women who are eager to serve the Lord traveling to La Ceiba this year!

The goal of our trip is to show the people of La Ceiba how precious they are to us, and more importantly, to our Lord, through helping to meet their felt needs.  It is our desire that through our actions and words we will be able to share with the citizens of Ceiba the incredible hope we have in Jesus Christ and to introduce them to His amazing love.  There are a few ways you can be actively involved in this endeavor.  We invite you to take part in any or all of these opportunities and thus be as vital a member of our team as any of us who will be boarding the plane!

1. PRAYER.  Without a doubt, our biggest need is for prayer.  No matter how prepared we are, how many supplies we take, or how "noble" our cause, without God's power, our efforts are useless.  We desperately ask for your prayer before and throughout our trip, as well as your continued prayers for the ongoing work in Honduras.  If you are interested in committing to prayer for our team, we ask you to email hondura...@yahoo.com.  We will be sending out regular updates on how you can pray as well as how God is blessing.  We thank you in advance for committing to this absolutely VITAL part of our trip!!  In 1 Chronicles 16:11 we are reminded to..."Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually."  We ask you to do so on our behalf and the behalf of those in Ceiba.

2.  FINANCES FOR CASA TOTAL.  Health problems are a major issue in Honduras, as in any developing nation.  One of the main reasons for ongoing health problems in these nations is poor living situations.  In Honduras many "houses" resemble dilapidated lean-to's with dirt floors and no electricity nor running water.  The walls and roof are often made with scraps found throughout the "neighborhood" and are not able to withstand even benign weather patterns.  The implications of families, especially children, living in these conditions can be devastating.  Many of the ailments commonly seen in Honduras, including parasitic and bacterial infections that can wreak havoc on entire families, would be easily controlled if the living conditions of the family were improved.  Striving to improve the health status of local families, Great Commission Latin America has developed a program named Casa Total (Total Home) to help build safe, sturdy homes for such families.  While we are in La Ceiba, we will have the honor of helping to build a home for the family of Dona Elsa, a single mother within the church who currently lives within one of the slums of La Ceiba.  The cost of building one of these homes is minuscule in terms of American currency, costing approximately$4500-6000.  It is our goal to fully fund the home we will be building.  Our trip is approximately 40 days away and we fully believe that if He so desires, the Lord can raise this amount or more through the generosity of those here in America.  Might you be interested in giving, in any amount, to help fund this home?  How wonderful it would be to bless the church in La Ceiba by raising enough funds to not only cover the cost of this home, but another!!  If you are led to give, checks can be made out to Great Commission Latin America and sent to Vikki Bennett at 5228 NW 24th Place Gainesville, FL 32606.  The funds will then be sent to the GCLA office in Miami, designated for this project.  All gifts are tax-deductible.

3.  DONATION OF SUPPLIES.  We will have the privilege of serving the children of the slum where Dona Elsa currently lives while we are in Ceiba as well.  We hope to be able to provide small gifts to the children as well as try to help stock their school with supplies.  We are collecting basic school supplies (pencils, markers, crayons, sharpeners, erasers, notebooks, etc) and used children's clothing that is in good shape to distribute to these children.  In addition, we welcome donations of kid's vitamins, kid's tylenol (generic is fine!) or any other over-the-counter meds (many of which can be found at the Dollar Store!).   How wonderful it would be to bring "Christmas in May" to the families within this neighborhood, presenting them not only with gifts they can touch but also with the understanding that they are loved by the Lord!!!  If you would like to  donate clothes or supplies, please email Vikki at RNV...@yahoo.com or by contacting any other team member.  We'd be glad to come pick them up!

Oh friends, how hard it is to put into words the excitement that continues to grow as each day brings this trip nearer.  Our team is eager to get there and to experience all that the Lord has in store.  Each of us grateful for His love and power within our lives fervently anticipates getting to express those very attributes of God to the citizens of Honduras.  We thank you in advance for your support, whether through prayer, finances, suppplies, or all three!  For purposes of planning in Honduras, we request that donations for Casa Total be received by April 20 and any clothes or supplies be obtained by May 1st.   Again, please email hondura...@yahoo.com to sign up to be part of our prayer team...it is our goal to have 500 people signed up to be praying for us during our preparation as well as throughout our trip...surely this goal could be easily surpassed!  There is no limit to the good that can be done in His name when done solely by His power.  Please join us in accessing that power through prayer!

 "Glorify the LORD with me;
       let us exalt his name together."
          Psalm 34:3

with eagerness and gratitude,
Vikki

**Please feel free to pass this along to as many as you believe would want to join us in prayer or giving!  Let's surpass that goal of 500 prayer warriors!**
