Thank you, Hasan for capturing the meeting minutes. 

Please see below meeting minutes for the AABC's Annual General Meeting 2017-2018. 

Meeting date : September 30, 2017.

Time: 11 :00 AM (Actual start time 11:45 AM)

Location : Tumbleweed Recreation Center, Multipurpose Room

Attendees : Zain Ahmed, Mohsiul Alam, Ashraf Rumi, Kazi Sayeed, Arif Itmam, Hasan Mushtaq, Saidur Rob, Naveed Ahmed, Mohammad Hossain


Agenda Item 1: Decision to have tournament for the season 2017-2018

  • To be decided by the Team Representatives (member of the Legislative Committee - LC) of the 3 Teams participated in the last season of the MRMCT, Team Lions and All Members of the cricket community at large.

It was decided that Murad Rana Memorial Cricket Tournament (MRMCT) 2017-2018 will commence. Kazi Sayeed and Ashraf Rumi represented the Royal Bengals. Arif Itmam and Saidur Rob were present to confirm addition of the Lions team during the 2017-2018 season. Before the meeting Zain Ahmed received confirmation from the Firebirds by phone. And later on Mohammad Hossain joined the meeting and also confirmed their participation in the MRMCT 2017-2018 season.


The below agenda items is subject to the decision of Agenda Item 1.

Agenda Item 2: Election / Selection of new Executive Committee (EC)

  • To be decided by the Team Representatives (member of the Legislative Committee - LC) of the 3 Teams participated in the last season of the MRMCT.  
  • Each team needs to select one person as their team representative.  We are requesting the teams to send the name of the team representative to the EC-LC e-mail group by 9/29/17.
  • The positions for the Executive Committee include: 1) President, 2) General Secretary, 3) Director of Operations, 4) Director of Logistics, and 5) Treasurer

Each team proposed a member of their team as a member of the Legislative Committee : (Team Representatives)

Firebirds : Asif Hasan, Lions : Nafiz Imtiyaz Khan, Royal Bengals : Kazi Sayeed

Everyone proposed to keep the Executive Committee the same as last year. 

Executive Committee : 

President : Zain Ahmed

General Secretary : Saidur Rob

Operations : Ashraf Rumi 

Logistics : Shadhin Shiraj

Treasurer : Asif Hasan 


Agenda Item 3: Team registration

  • Finalize the number of teams for this year's MRMCT
  • If there is any new team, that has to be announced and accepted by the LC prior to inclusion in the MRMCT
  • Determine the team-registration fee 
  • Collect a non-refundable security deposit of $100 (a part of the Registration Fee) from each participating teams

The number of teams participating during the MRMCT 2017-2018 season is three : Firebirds, Lions and the Royal Bengals. No new teams were introduced by anyone in the meeting. Team registration fees were determined as $300 dollars. Lions and Royal Bengals paid the $100 Dollars no-refundable fees. Firebirds will the $100 Dollars non-refundable fees soon.

Agenda Item 4: Game format and schedule

  • Decide on single league, double league etc …
  • Determine the length of the tournament and dates for the games
  • Discuss and finalize schedule format and scheduling assignments
  • Finalize the tournament start date; a tentative start date of the MRMCT is end of October (subject to discussion)

It was decided that the tournament will be a triple league. The tournament will start in November and complete by February. Since there are only 3 teams, there will be one game per week end. Naveed Ahmed will work on tentative schedule following the schedule from 2016-2017 season. Tentative start date is Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Agenda Item 5: Selection of tournament venue (field / fields)

  • Thude Park and / or Pima Park

Thude Park was selected as the venue for the tournament for 2017-2018 season.

Agenda Item 6: Financial Report by the Treasurer

Zain Ahmed provided a brief financial report. A balance of $648 Dollars remain from last year, 2016-2017 season.

Agenda item 7: Other Decisions

  • Decide on using external umpires?
  • Discuss equipment needs for field preparation?

Everyone accepted Mohsoiul Alam as the Umpire for the tournament. The non-playing team will provide the Leg umpire for the games. In case, Mohsiul Alam cannot perform as the umpire, he will make arrangements for an umpire from the members of the community. No additional equipment needed for preparing the field. October 21, 2017, is scheduled to prepare the field. Participation by each team is mandatory. 

Agenda Item 8: General Discussions

  • Open for suggestions, critics, etc …

After a brief discussion, it was decided that 2017-2018 MRMCT will accommodate limited 25 over games. This will allow more players in every team will have opportunity to play.

There was a lengthy discussion on soliciting sponsorship from community members. The sponsors will be advertised during the game and will be responsible for providing lunch for approximately 50 people. A total of 10 games will need 10 separate sponsors. Potential sponsors are (please correct the names) Bipu bhai, Father of Tazin/Tarin, Kazi Hamid bhai, Golam bhai, Lasker bhai, Dulal bhai, Zain bhai, Rumi bhai, Suman, 

Mohammad Hossain suggested the use of a software to update the game results.

Saidur Rob suggested that a flyer be prepared and distributed using the social media to advertise this year's tournament. This will generate more interests among the general community members support the tournament and the games during the season.

Few playing rules were discussed and it was decided that these can be finalized by the Legislative Committee.
