Unfortunately, Microsoft's selfishness makes what you propose impossible (I think).  As yet, the only way to use Windows Update is with IE, as far as I know . . . does anyone else know a workaround for this?

I am pretty sure Microsoft created a FireFox extension for the
Windowsupdate. I couldn't find a link on microsoft, but here it is,
http://www.beggarchooser.com/firefox/windowsupdate_1.1.4.xpi from this
site

Hope this helps you,
Stephen

Sorry, after I tried it, all it done was open IE, sorry. But if Find
that IE tab will embed IE inside of Firefox, that will let you update
while in FireFox.
