Streaming API?

Can someone please confirm FireAnt actually uses the Streaming API, capturing all tweets as delivered by Twitter? FireAnt not accepting start dates in the past and the way tweets trickle in suggest so, but I see several questions about historical data and there is no explicit reference to the choice of API in the documentation.
