Incomplete tweets

Dear Lawrence,

First of all, I would like to thank you for the wonderful tools you provide; they are a real powerhouse. FireAnt and AntConc, especially, have been invaluable for my research.

I would like to ask for a clarification regarding FireAnt. My question is similar, if not identical, to the last question posted on this thread by Almudena Diaz Garcia, but unfortunately I cannot find the solution you provided.

I have smoothly used FireAnt to collect tweets, but several characters from the longer tweets seem to get cut off after a point. I tried to overcome this obstacle by selecting the full_text filter under "extended tweet" and I was thus able to retrieve the full text for some of the tweets, but not for all.

Is there perhaps a relevant workaround? This would be extremely important for my future research as well, since thousands of tweets would have to be analysed.

Dear Anastasia,

My answer would be the same as before, so I'm not sure why this isn't working for you. Perhaps Almudena Diaz Garcia can offer some insight. If not, I can look into this a little more.

It is not that your solution isn't working for me, but rather that, for some reason, I can't view your message to Almudena Diaz Garcia containing the solution in the relevant thread., so I actually don't know what the solution is.

I will try to contact her as well and see how I can go about this.

Sorry for the very slow reply. I only noticed that I hadn't replied to your email just now. Here's what I wrote:

This is a good question. When you collect tweet data, you'll find that there are multiple categories in the json file. I think if you look, you should find a "full tweet" entry that will have the complete tweet without the ... ending. Please look around. If you can't find it, please send me the jsonl file (by email) that you created and I can check it for you.
