FireNet is an NDIS driver. NDIS stands for Network Driver Interface
Specification. NDIS has evolved along with Windows, as Windows
provided new capabilities for network drivers. So NDIS itself has
versions.

FireNet was written as an NDIS 4.0 driver. Windows Vista implements
NDIS 6.0 and supports all older drivers (4.0, 5.0, 5.1) through a
translation layer that, as stated in some Microsoft documentation,
significantly affects performance.

This is the reason why FireNet performance is slow in Windows Vista.

Currently we have not decided on the exact timetable for porting
FireNet to NDIS 6.0. If you are really interested please let us know.
