This is a major conceptual change in our products.
ubCore used to contain Unibrain's 1394 stack and all the tools that go
with it. It included of course our DirectShow camera driver
(UBDCAM.SYS).
Fire-i Application setup on the other hand contained an implementation
of a DirectShow camera driver (FIDCAM.SYS) over the Microsoft 1394
stack.
For some weird reason, ubCore did not contain FIDCAM.SYS, so if you
wanted to do some imaging work with Unibrain's 1394 stack and then
some imaging work with the Microsoft 1394 stack, you had to install
both products. This would easily lead to support nightmares, when
users updated the products independently (they share several
components).
This is now changed. As of ubCore 5.50, ubCore also installs
FIDCAM.SYS. This means that you can use the ubSwitch utility to switch
to the Microsoft 1394 stack, do some imaging work there, then switch
back to Unibrain's 1394 stack, etc, all with a single product
installed.
In fact, the installers have been updated so that if you already have
Fire-i Application installed and you install ubCore, the installer
will REMOVE the setup of Fire-i application.
Similarly if you have ubCore installed and try to run the Fire-i
application setup, the program will refuse to install, since what it
provides is already installed.
