Internship - Communications
Closing Date of Monday 26 February 2007


The Commonwealth Foundation's Internship Programme is a dynamic new
programme offering interns the opportunity to:
participate in the Foundation?s activities in order to gain work
experience and
develop and strengthen their knowledge and skills in ways in which
complement their studies
The internships currently cover work in the Foundation's three
programme areas:
Culture and Diversity
Governance and Democracy
Sustainable Development
This will now be expanded to include Communications.

General Eligibility
To be considered for an internship, an applicant must
Be a citizen of a Commonwealth member state or dependent territory.
Preference will be given to applicants from countries that are members
of the Commonwealth Foundation
Be based in the UK and / or have obtained permission to reside in the
UK for the full duration of the internship.
Be enrolled in a university or equivalent tertiary institution or have
graduated in the previous 12 months. (Students enrolled on first
degree programmes should have completed two years of full time study.
Students pursuing post-graduate studies should be in the process of
completing their degrees and wish to gain experience at the Foundation
in the field in which they are enrolled.)

Internships run for 2 - 12 months with the length determined by the
tasks to be undertaken. Interns receive a weekly stipend (currently
£250) but are not considered to be members of staff.

The Foundation is currently looking for an intern in the following
Area(s)

Communications
The internship will start in April 2007 and be for a period of 8 - 10
months.
In addition to meeting the general eligibility requirements (see
above), applicants require the following:

Specific Knowledge and Skills
Degree in communications, media relations is essential
Good communications skills, writing, speaking and listening are all
essential.
Good organisational skills, including event management are an
advantage.
Knowledge of Microsoft Access is essential.
Experience of managing databases is essential.
Team worker.
Computer literate in Word, Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer are
essential.
Some HTML is an advantage.
Project Management experience is preferable.
Knowledge of international development is an advantage
