Dear Commissioner Lambert and members of the Stewardship Council,
I received an e-mail yesterday evening at 5:38 p.m. regarding the Stewardship Council Meeting this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. I regret that I will not be able to get out work today to attend the meeting.
I am writing with regard to the Update on the Middlesex Fells Reservation RMP. On behalf of the Middlesex Fells Reservation Dog Owner Group (FellsDOG) I would like to bring to the attention of the Stewardship Council that, since the Council approved the RMP in January 2012, FellsDOG has held three events at the Middlesex Fells:
- Park Serve Day Clean up at Sheepfold;
- Educational Workshop at Botume House with professional dog trainer on recognizing healthy play behaviors in dogs;
- Wildlife awareness presentation at Botume House with MA Project Coyote representative.
I would also like to share our concern that, in the past year, no one from the DCR has reached out to FellsDOG to partner with us on the implementation of the Plan, in particular, with regard to the Plan's goal G4.5. "Manage a designated off-leash area at the Sheepfold as a pilot off-leash opportunity in partnership with dog-owner stakeholder groups." We are also interested to partner with the DCR on goal G1.11. "Educate dog-owners about the potential impact of dog waste on water supplies."
We are eager to learn about ways that we can partner with the DCR!
Thank you for your kind attention.
Best regards,
Michele Biscoe
