Hello!

Join us at the fat cat fab lab community presentation on April 27th at 2:00pm. You’ll have a chance to learn more about the new Fat Cat Fab Lab, an upcoming Maker hub in Manhattan!

We know you know that Fat Cat has a long history of acting as a hub and meetup space encouraging creative, collaborative interaction through gaming and music. It has been described as an informal arts incubator, and a place where anyone can learn to play and play to learn. These core values such as connecting people, sharing knowledge, and supporting creativity lend themselves to our new endeavor, the fat cat Fab Lab. Fab Labs are digital fabrication laboratories that provide the tools for rapid prototyping and small scale manufacturing in a community-accessible space.

We are excited to have Katie Rast flying in from California to work with our team to present at this meetup event. Katie is a founder of Fab Lab San Diego and has worked extensively with the MIT Fab Lab Network since 2007 to promote community-embedded laboratories and learning opportunities.

So, if you’re a maker/DIYers, we are interested in hearing your ideas and meet you. We want to get to know those of you with specialized skills that are interested in teaching, mentoring, or being involved in our project in any way.

We hope to see you there!

Originally growing out of the Center for Bits and Atoms at MIT, Fab Labs are a global network of labs with similar tools and goals, and Fat Cat Fab Lab is the first in Manhattan. In a Fab Lab, community members can learn new skills, hold a maker or crafter meetup with other members, design and build products, and unlock inventions and ideas. The tools that enable this process are low-cost and open source software and hardware, CNC machines such as laser cutters, 3 axis milling machines and 3D printers. The ultimate goal is to democratize innovation, allowing for low barrier access to these tools by the community, and assistance in actualizing ideas in physical form.

For those interested in taking classes and workshops, please stay tune for more details on our future program and membership offering.
