Attending:

Russell Barber
Margaret Johns
Carol Littlejohn
Carla Lyle
Shannon Warden
Gary Palmer
Valerie Millsapps
Mike Reynolds (Principal of FHS)
Kay Wellons (Principal of FIS)
West-Side Shopper Reporter

1. Roll call (Johns)
2. Approval of August minutes
3. Call for any additions to the agenda:
• Review of SERC from 2009 to present: Johns reviewed both the long-
term and short-term goals. Short-term goal: Supply Our Schools (SOS)
program that ended on August 20, 2010; long term-goal: connect with an
ongoing volunteer program. Will revisit these goals next meeting. Lyle
stated that our main focus should be on public awareness.
4. Review of Old Business
Supply Our Schools Project:
Barber, Lyle and Littlejohn distributed flyers to local stores to
announce the school supply drive. At the conclusion on August 20th,
project provided two large bins of paper and suppplies at Town Hall.
Some suggestions for improvement :
• Aim for established businesses, banks, churches and Farragut library
• Also, target stores that sell supplies and paper (CVS, Walgreens,
Staples, Kroger)
• Possible use of Boy Scouts or other young adult leadership programs
• SOS project should be extended for longer time
• More advertising is essential for success
• Logistics of drop-off should be further discussed
Johns, Warden and Barber agreed to deliver current school supplies to
5 schools. Johns will contact Guy Marco from FHS to discuss using high
school students for community service projects. Barber will contact
the Boy Scouts for participation of local Scouts in community service
projects.
• County-wide voluteer program:
• Partners in Education is still developing database and is pleased
that SERC committee has expressed interest.
• New Business:
• Officer elections for 2010-11: Margaret Johns, President; Shannon
Warden, Vice President; Carol Littlejohn, Secretary.
• Meeting dates/times: Committee will now meet the first Tuesday of
the month at 8:30 AM at the Town Hall.
• Farragut High School Foundation: Littlejohn will contact Jerry
Martin for an update of FHSF database, marketing and endowment plans.
• Collect helpful statistics from schools: Johns will send request to
schools for useful statistics. Example: How many students voluntarily
transfer to a Farragut school (usually with no additional funds)?
Reynolds stated that 148 students transferred to FHS this school year.
(Most Title 1 schools receive about $20,000 in additional funds, but
FHS does not receive any Title 1 funds, absorbing the cost of each
student.)
• Upcoming agenda: Johns will post the agenda earlier on Farragut
website so members can suggest additional issues.
6. Adjournment at 3:33 PM.

Next meeting is on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Town Hall.

Thanks so much for the minutes. Really sorry that I missed. I checked
the Town Hall listings on TV and it steered me wrong. I was promptly
in place at the wrong place. :-) Then, I did attempt to leave Town
Hall and try to park at the school, but the road was closed from
Campbell Station Road and I gave up. I'll submit my suggestions for
Goals and Objectives for the October meeting. Perhaps they can be
considered for 2011. The training session has really cut back on our
ability to communicate, so I'll forward them to Valerie. Good job,
Carol, you are so prompt and efficient! Appreciate the officer
positions being retained. Thanks! Betty
