Hello all,
On behalf of the Town of Farragut’s Education Relations Committee, I would like to thank you for answering the questions we recently posed regarding budgetary matters, per pupil expenditures, your greatest challenges and more. Our committee had a great discussion at its October meeting earlier this week, where we concluded that it would be most beneficial to host you all for a roundtable discussion at our November meeting.
The purpose of the roundtable would be to engage in a dialogue on some of the critical matters you face as administrators as well as educating us as committee members so that we may be effective in our role as liaisons. We believe that there are some areas that the community at large may not be aware of and we would like to gain a further understanding of these – so that we can facilitate the generation of further awareness.
Topics for the roundtable are proposed as follows:
· No Child Left Behind (NCLB) transfers and their impact on your school (where applicable)
· Any effects that the economic downturn may be having on your school
· Your perspectives of the national Race to the Top program and TN’s $500 million grant for educational reform
· Disposition of the funds allocation from TN’s $500 million grant and your perspectives on how this will impact or support the Knox County Schools system
· Discussion of Expect More, Achieve More – feedback you are receiving from parents, any support that you may be receiving to help communicate new standards to parents
· Vols4STEM, any work that your school may be doing in conjunction with Vols4STEM, and each of your schools’ approach to programs in STEM
· Any other matters that you would like to discuss with our committee as it forms plans for the 2010-2011 school year
Please consider the following potential meeting dates and reply with your availability for an 8:30 am meeting at Town Hall. We have decided not to meet on our regularly-scheduled day of November 2 – as it is election day.
Wednesday, 11/3
Thursday, 11/4
Tuesday, 11/16
Wednesday, 11/17
Thursday, 11/18
Thank you for your consideration in this. We greatly desire this level of communication and we look forward to the discussions this meeting in November will generate.
Best Regards,
Margaret Johns
