Dear EDC members:
Please consider taking the time to click your way through this - it takes about 3-4 minutes, and allows you the opportunity to "vote" on this particular place of interest: Admiral David Glasgow Farragut's birthplace. While much is in motion to secure this national asset, it is still not a done deal. Securing it as a protected national public historic landmark, regardless of whether it is within the 16-mile boundaries of the Town of Farragut, helps to ensure the future success of Farragut, named after this hero. Please think "long term" in how this affects Farragut from a branding perspective, economic perspective and historical perspective. Thanks! -- Nancy

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has created a This Place Matters Community Challenge to help non-profit organizations across the country start a conversation about places that matter in the communities that they work in. And the more support each organization gets for their participation, the more opportunity they have to spark a preservation movement in their community, and inspire more people to embrace preservation and historic places that matter (plus a cash prize to help them continue their work doesn’t hurt either.)
A message from Margot Kline utmar...@utk.edu. The campaign to preserve the birthplace is now part of a "This Place Matters" contest on the National Trust for Historic Preservation site. Please vote today to help us win $25,000!
This money would be administered by Knox Heritage, a local preservation affiliate of the Historic Trust that has set up a Farragut's Birthplace fund. This effort is also officially supported by Knox County Parks and Recreation and Hola Hora Latina, a nonprofit that promotes social and cultural activities to create bonds between the local Hispanic and native East-Tennessee community.
