In the spirit of community gathering, market organizers have planned an end-of-the-season party for this Saturday evening Oct 24th, starting at 5pm . This Havest Hoe-Down will take place in the Alpha Building (former Broad Street Furnishings) . NCFMA member-farmers are planning to cook 60 gallons of meat and vegetarian soups to be served with fresh bread donated by Fulcrum Farm, Flour Garden Bakery and SummerThymes Deli.
If you can help set up - meet there at 3:30 or 4!
Organizers are asking everyone to bring your own bowl and spoon, as this will be a zero-waste event. If you forget, rentals will be available for $1. Local favorite, Ragged But Right, will be playing music with contra dancing after dinner. Tickets are $7 at the door and beer and wine will be for sale as well as fresh ginger ale and lemonade.
The most exciting moment of the evening for someone will be winning the top raffle prize, a weekend at a Tahoe cabin, donated by FoodWineArt Magazine. Five additional prizes will be awarded including a large basket of winter produce and a $100 gift certificate to Peaceful Valley Farm and Garden Supply.Also, remember there are just two farmers markets left this season, this Saturday and next (Halloween). Get your pumpkins and stock up on winter storage veggies like squash, onions, apples, garlic, etc. If you aren't sure how to properly store something, ask your farmer - they'll know best.
