Projects to be Represented Include:
Interim Trail Plan for Rancho Corral de Tierra
A plan for the trail system at Rancho Corral de Tierra is required to effectively manage this new property for both visitor access and resource protection. Although a comprehensive plan and Environmental Assessment will not be completed for a few years, a Draft Interim Trail Plan has been prepared with stakeholder involvement that will provide direction for maintenance and use in the interim. This interim trail plan will be finalized by the end of 2013. Your input is invited on this draft interim plan.
Milagra Ridge Vegetation and Trail Management
NPS and the Parks Conservancy are preparing for two upcoming projects at Milagra Ridge. We will be removing invasive pampas grass and French broom, and selected Monterey Pine and cypress trees to protect and restore habitat for the endangered mission blue butterfly. Plans are also underway for the Milagra-Battery Trail connecting the Connemara neighborhood with the top of Milagra Ridge.
The Mori Point Trailhead Parking Project will install new accessible parking spaces and connections to existing trails at the eastern entrance to Mori Point. The new accessible parking spaces will follow Universal Design criteria and will help bring Mori Point up to the ADA/ABA/AGODA standard for outdoor recreation areas and will allow park visitors with mobility issues to use this area.
Devil's Slide Trail
San Mateo County's Devil's Slide Trail Project involves the conversion of the segment of Highway 1 south of the City of Pacifica, which was closed after the opening of the Devil's Slide Bypass Tunnels, into a public multi-use non-motorized trail. The project includes roadway surfacing, signage, accessibility improvements, habitat protection, and overlooks. Staff from San Mateo County Parks have been invited to answer questions about this exciting new trail that will open in 2014!
Get a sneak peek into an exciting two-day science event planned for March 28-29, 2014: the Golden Gate National Parks BioBlitz and Biodiversity Festival! During the event, teams of scientists, naturalists, community leaders, students and the public will join forces to discover and inventory as many living plants and creatures as possible. Inventory teams will be dispatched throughout the parks, including Mori Point and Rancho Corral de Tierra.
It's fun. It's healthy. It makes a difference. And it's easy to get started! We have a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups, including many that do not require training. We need your help as we work towards our vision of Parks For All Forever. Come learn about our monthly drop-in programs, including opportunities in Stewardship and Trails.
Meet the Roving Ranger! This mobile trailhead vehicle (a converted bread truck) is designed to serve as a visitor contact and information center both within our national parks and outside the park. National Park Service, Parks Conservancy, and Presidio Trust employees staff the vehicle to provide information about park sites, topics of interest, park events, and volunteer programs.
