YNNO Workplace by Sprikk

Posted: 20 Sep 2010 05:40 AM PDT

Sprikk recently completed the design for an office in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

.

Description from Sprikk:

Sprikk designed a new working environment for consulting agency YNNO.

YNNO advises on innovative methods of working and the environments that support these. Their expertise follows the conceptions of the “new ways of working”. As their best reference sprikk planned the office that embodies these notions.

Since their consultants spend more time at their client’s than in the office, YNNO asked for a workplace that functions as a home base rather than a conventional office. A working environment was created that suits the nature of the consultant’s way of working in which communication and networking play a vital role. The floorplan is kept entirely open with the exception of two acoustically separated glass volumes. This stimulates free movement, spontaneous encounters and flexible uses while allowing for lots of natural light.

In this open plan organically shaped birchwood structures were placed that form partitions, niches, storage spaces and bookshelves. By applying one material and a single construction method a coherent appearance of the space is created, that still offers a diversity of working places with gradations in open and closed character. The natural, haptic qualities of these birchwood structures form a contrast to the high-end communication- and presentation technologies that were applied throughout the space.

The wood structures contain a number of ergonomic workplaces that embrace daylight and offer a view to the outside. Settings for the concentrated individual as well as active collaboration can be found. A vis-à-vis setting for casual discussions is placed on a platform integrated into the wooden structures. Groups of up to eight people can work on projects and presentations in an acoustically well-balanced room. It is fitted with writable surfaces and high-end presentation equipment. Private meetings or presentations for clients are held in an acoustically separated room that offers a casual atmosphere and plenty of daylight. A free-formed wooden island, close to the printer and the archive, can be used for secretarial and administrative work but can also function as an open office desk space for the consultants. The most notable open working environment is the ‘guild’ table. This giant surface provides an active and communicative setting by its organic layout. For special occasions and company-wide presentations it can accommodate the entire staff.

Sé collection II by Jaime Hayon

Posted: 20 Sep 2010 03:16 AM PDT

Spanish designer Jaime Hayon has created a new furniture collection for the design brand .

Description from Sé:

‘Solid bronze side tables with fantastic curves. Bold colours applied to confident shapes. A sofa and armchair delicately proportioned but with a wit and presence that sets them apart from any other chair. The upholstery is refined, the styling almost classic but with a look of something very new, very now.’

This is the show-stopping Sé Collection by Jaime Hayon. Created by one of the world’s most outstanding and original designers to date; launching in London during the capital’s design festival this September – this series of chairs, mirrors, tables and sofas is Hayon’s first ever complete furniture range.

Launched at Maison et Objet, Paris 2008, Sé is a UK based, globally sold luxury furniture brand produced mostly across a French network of craftsmen and artisans. The first and current Sé collection designed by Damien Langlois-Meurinne, was revealed to critical acclaim.

The latest Sé Collection by Jaime Hayon is dedicated to the interior design world and will offer a fresh and innovative range of iconic elements to this sector.

The Sé / Jaime Hayon collaboration began with an idea from Director Pavlo Schtakleff – he himself constantly striving to achieve the ‘new’ by carefully sourcing only leading experts to create unique styles and finishes, enabling design extraordinaire Jaime Hayon to create a full range of pieces would, in Schtakleff’s mind undoubtedly result in this perfect coupling of design originality with Sé’s now firmly established basis of superior craftsmanship and technological expertise.

The materials chosen for this collection were a selection of the finest woods, metals, marbles and fabrics – the edit of these, resulting in a richness clearly demonstrated within each piece. Shapes within the collection are dynamic and light.

They are objects of comfortable luxury, each with a strong identity yet classic in their ability to work within a variety of environments.

For Jaime Hayon, the freedom to create an extensive collection with the support of a skilled production network was also an attractive proposition. “I met Sé in London whilst selecting furniture elements for an interior design project.

“I was impressed by the quality and comfort of Sé’s pieces, as well as the spirit of the company. This opportunity brought about a discussion on the lack of choice for certain elements in interior design. Dialogue led to reality and a year later, the Sé Collection by Hayon is ready…” – Jaime Hayon

The result is outstanding. A pure combination of design, wit and craftsmanship.

The personality of each piece, the originality of the collection as a whole, the detail and the finishes all extol the virtues of a team who have pushed every boundary in creating this exciting collection, of what can only be described as no less than haute couture furniture.

The Ardú Console Table by Martin Gallagher

Posted: 20 Sep 2010 02:08 AM PDT

Irish furniture designer Martin Gallagher has created the Ardú console table, and will be exhibiting them at the Designers Block event in London this week.

.

Description from Martin Gallagher:

Inspired by skeletal structures, Ardú is a piece of sculptural craftsmanship.  Repetition of form creates a rib – like formation resulting in a piece of intricate beauty.  The sculptural elements reminiscent of delicate bones and brass spacers evocative of the human vertebrae, create division within the rhythmic pattern, in unison forming the structure of Ardú.  Maple was chosen due to its light delicate properties. Glass was selected for the table top so visual connection with the configuration is maintained from all perspectives.  Individual entities are combined to form one sculptural piece resulting in Ardú.  The overall length can be modified by adding or reducing the amount of legs for each table.

Centauro Concept Store by AUM Architects

Posted: 19 Sep 2010 03:27 PM PDT

AUM Architects designed the Centauro concept store in São Paulo, Brazil.

.

Description from the architects:

The project for a concept store for Centauro at Shopping Cidade Jardim in São Paulo, Brazil, exploit some strong elements that the brand already has. The idea started from a design that shows, somehow, similarity to the existing brand and not a complete rupture.

The use of the red and white colors, which are characteristics of the brand, and exploring the race track, which exists in all stores, were important elements in the new project. The fundamental concept that guided the work was the creation of continuous areas that could be deformed and turned into structural elements of the store or even product supports, breaking the regularity of the space.

For the coating of walls and ceilings, we used successive rings of white aluminum composite material of 1.25 m, arranged diagonally both vertical and horizontal, forming no parallel plans. These plans support products and allow an indirect lighting, creating a large box of light. The inclination of the panels also gives a better view of products behind glasses.

The red track is another prominent element of the project. We treat it as an area that spreads through the store and becomes unusual and impressive elements. At the junction of the two axes, practically in the heart of the area, appears in the lining of the mezzanine, emphasizing the strength of the brand and becoming a corporate identification element. From this centre it covers the walls at the background of the store, turning on to a ladder. The red area surrounding the mezzanine, showing up in the upper deck and the lining in the lower deck, becomes part of the counter box and a vertical plan that set the limits to the fitting room area.
