Just now at Mandarin class, Brigitta was pushed by another girl who's a bit older than her. She just stood there and started crying when the girl pushed her again. It was hard for me to get to her coz I was sitting down cross legged with Kurt. I called her to me but she didn't move so I had to kinda scoot over to get to her. The whole day after that she was not her usual self. I told her a couple of times throughout the day that I understand it doesn't feel nice being pushed and next time to just say to the person, "Stop, that's not nice" and then to go to me.

It's hard to watch your child being pushed or bullied. That girl's mom btw, didn't do anything..sheesh!  And this is what we have to face with sometimes, parents who don't think what their child did was wrong. My first reaction is to scold the other child but I also wanted to see how Brigitta would react. Now, that I know she's sensitive about being pushed (who wouldn't right?), I decided to just equip her with tools on how to handle it. Hopefully that if it happens again, she knows what to do and have a higher self esteem from it.

I learnt from a seminar recently that we have to let our kids experience failure and tough situations coz that's how they learn to deal with life. Life, unfortunately, is not all roses. One of the other things I learnt was to acknowledge their feelings and when they sense that we understand what they feel, then offer a solution.   In a way, we're lucky to be parents in this age as there's so much information backed from the numerous child development research that is out there. Googling is ok but I love reading all the books too, esp on brain development in the early years.  If you have good parenting books you like, please feel free to share with me. :)

In the meantime, I have to remember to keep my Mama bear in check so that the little bear can be a brave and smart bear one day.

Cheers,
