FOOTHILL-DeANZA COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT POLICE DEPARTMENT
"MESSAGE FROM THE
CHIEF"
************************************************************
M A Y 2006
Greetings from the men and women of the Foothill-DeAnza
Community College District Police Department. The following
is the monthly update for May 2006. We hope you find the
information useful.
************************************************************
CHIEF'S MESSAGE - "Click It or Ticket"
Starting one week before and running one week after
the Memorial Day holiday - from May 22 to June 4, 2006 -
thousands of law enforcement agencies in communities
across the country will be actively enforcing State
safety belt laws during the
Click It or Ticket
Mobilization.
These efforts - coupled with paid advertising and the
support of government agencies, traffic safety organizations,
local advocates and others - will yet again result in
dramatic increases in safety belt use, and will protect
us against one of the greatest threats to us all - traffic
crashes.
The goal of the
Click It or Ticket Mobilization is not to
give out tickets, but rather to influence people to buckle
up and prevent injuries and fatalities. Research proves that
the certainty of a ticket and costly fines convinces people
to
Click It. The
Click It or Ticket Mobilization
plays a
critical role in the effort to keep people safe on our
Nation's roads and highways. Please help keep our colleges
safe by remembering to
Click It!
Take care, stay safe and thank you for your support of
the Foothill-DeAnza CCD Police Department!
Chief Ron Levine

SPOTLIGHT - "Emerging Technology Development Team"
I am pleased to announce the formation of the Department’s
“Emerging Technology Development Team” effective 04/16/06.
The primary mission of the team will be to explore, develop
and acquire new technology from all disciplines and integrate
them into our Department.
The team will be headed up by Mr. Rudy Castillo, who will
volunteer his time to this effort. Rudy is the Technical
Director of Microsoft Product Management at Hitachi Data
Systems, responsible for the storage system product line
utilizing Windows technology. Prior to joining HDS, he
worked for the storage business unit at Hewlett-Packard.
Rudy brings 20 years of industry experience focused at
technical partner management. In addition to his private
sector experience, Rudy served as a Technical Reserve
with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. He plans
on attending the Reserve Police Academy and becoming
a sworn Reserve Police Officer with our agency.
Assisting Rudy with this team will be Officer Leif Nelson,
who will provide law enforcement and department information,
specific requirements and specifications. This will be
a collateral assignment for Leif. As the team becomes more
involved in projects, I anticipate adding more resources
to the unit, both from inside and outside of the Department.
Rudy’s title will be “Special Projects Coordinator” and he
can be reached at
castil...@fhda.edu .
Please help me welcome Rudy to the Foothill-DeAnza community.
Let me know if I can answer any questions regarding the
Emerging Technology Development Team.

Q & A - "Motorcycle Parking"
Q: Can I use my car's quarterly parking permit on my
motorcycle?
- Anonymous Foothill Student
A: No, the District Parking Regulations require you to
have an additional motorcycle permit. We are
working
on modifying the Parking Reguations so students
can
obtain a free motorcycle permit if they purchase
a
quarterly or yearly parking decal.
