In February 2026, around 1,000 people gathered at GardaWorld's Montreal Headquarters to protest Investissement Québec's investment in the company. The protest led to an arrest and the launch of formal petitions to withdraw public funds from GardaWorld.

Should the provincial government hold domestic companies responsible for their roles in foreign immigration systems? If so, should there be official legislation holding these companies responsible?

The provincial government should play a role in holding domestic companies accountable, especially if their activities abroad raise serious human rights concerns. If a company’s involvement in foreign immigration systems contributes to harm or controversial practices, governments may have a responsibility to ensure public funds are not supporting those actions.

Introducing legislation could help create clear standards and accountability, such as requiring transparency, ethical guidelines, or restrictions on government investments.

Although, I do believe that there must be a balance because too much regulation could discourage business growth and/or international competitiveness for Canadian companies.
