The Point in Time (PIT) Count is a vital effort to help us better understand and support our neighbor’s experiencing homelessness in Franklin County. Your time and compassion truly make a difference!

This year’s PIT Count will take place January 28–29, 2026, and there are a few different volunteer roles available, including:

Joining a team to engage with neighbors in need. Conducting street canvasing & completing forms. Reporting back to point person sharing data

• January 28 | Start time: 5:00 PM

Making phone calls to update records for neighbors who have accessed services

• January 29 | 9:30 AM–3:00 PM

If you’re interested in volunteering or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Cara Smith, Point of Contact for PIT in Franklin County. You will be asked to share your name, personal cell number and location you wish to canvas.

We truly hope you’ll consider being part of this important work.  Virtual training will be offered January 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM via Microsoft Teams. In addition, PIT kick-off meeting will be held at 4:00 PM January 28- prior to the start of the count. All participants are encouraged to attend this kick-off meeting for location and safety coordination.

Specific location details will be shared closer to the event.

Sheltered Point in Time Count and Housing Inventory Count Resources

The Sheltered Point In Time Count includes all individuals who are experiencing sheltered homelessness on the night of the count. Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, and Safe Haven projects must report data for this count. This includes overnight cold weather shelters that are open on the night of the count, and clients who are staying in a hotel paid for by a non-profit or church. To be included in the count, homelessness must be a criteria for services. Regardless of HMIS participation status, these project must report the necessary Sheltered PIT information to the HMIS Lead, Institute for Community Alliances.

The Housing Inventory Count is an inventory of all of the beds and units in a CoC that are dedicated to persons who are homeless. This includes Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Safe Haven, Rapid ReHousing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Other Permanent Housing projects. Again, to be included in the count, homelessness must be a criteria for services. Regardless of HMIS participation status, these projects must report information about inventory and persons served to the to the HMIS Lead, Institute for Community Alliances.
