Hi Pratibha,

I have to say that was a very good job. Now we have a model that everyone can understand and not that ugly scribble that I did and just and my mind one person could understand (LOL).

Calvin, this is a very good model to present to your Director, what do you think?

Thank you very much,

Renato.

You all are truely amazing with your dedication and patience!

This model rocks! Thanks so much Pratibha.

Things in the office have been pretty crazy; there was a lot of
immediate demands they asked of the current access database.

In the next couple of days, please keep an eye out for some more
updates as far as business logic for the new database.

Thanks so much!

Hi ,

Thanks Calvin and Renato. I hope it helps the others to understand the project better as it did me. I was just wondering if we could all meet possibly thursday for an hour or two between 1pm and 4pm just to see where we are on the project . Also maybe if all of us could get some info on struts whatever we can collect we could just get it over and discuss. I was thinking this would be a good time to discuss the project flow as to what work should be started first so that we can focus on that and read about it so we are atleast prepared when the work actually starts.
The reason I'm saying that is Java,JSP,struts are all huge subjects as are I'm sure some of the others so maybe if we could get some direction from Renato as to what are important areas
as far as scripting is comcerned we could focus and read on those.
So everyone pls send a feedback as to whether its possible to meet on thursday some time.
If not atleast we should meet on tuesday i.e.13th.
Calvin could you get the requirements ready before we meet atleast some of them?

Thanks,
Pratibha

Hey everyone!

Thanks for taking the initiative on this Pratibha! Thursday sounds
wonderful and I can have the requirements by then! The diagram you
made is very clear and I have been using it to explain our project
with others. Great work!

This thursday, 8th sept. is good because i have yet another of my
famous trainings next monday through wednesday where I will be
somewhere in central NC, so Thursday sounds good. I understand about
the learning curve dealing with struts, j2ee and working with Tomcat;
I have been racing to learn about it myself, but with little progress!
I think after you all recieve the requirements, to which I am trying
to work diligently on, some of the next steps will fall into place.

My hopes are that we can start development later this month and I
think a meeting this thursday would be very beneficial to keep the
gears turning.

many thanks,
Calvin

I'ld like to come.  It is at your office, right?  Also, I forgot to ask, how long will this meeting be?  I may not be able to make it if it is going to extend over an hour.

Anita

I do not expect the meeting to last over an hour, and it will be at
the same location where you came today. As it stands now, I believe
the meeting will be at 2pm, via Pratibha's availability and speaking
with Christine.

look forward to seeing ya!

I just forgot I have a meeting tomorrow at 3pm (Labor Day has thrown me off schedule).  Can you give me a summary of the meeting, and hopefully I can meet everyone at the next one!

Thanks

No problem Anita; I completely understand.

I will definitely send a schedule.

Hi calvin,

I think if Renato can't make it we should reschedule our meeting because we can't discuss a lot of the technicalities. what do you think?
Who is anita?

Hi Everyone,

I'm so sorry! Just now I saw this list full of messages. I didn't know about this meet that you are planning. I just would like to know what do you think for Friday. Could be in the same hour that you defined for tomorrow. Just let me know. I will sleep late today. My English class started again and I have class Mon-Thursday in this same hour.

Good question, who is Anita?

Thanks a lot,

Renato.

Hello everyone,

Just to clarify, Anita is our newest addition to the group; she has a
technical background in SAS programming and statistics. She also has
experience working with Oracle and Java.

I feel she will be an asset as our most recent addition and round out
the group to 5 non-student volunteers.

This and a few other items I would like to discuss at our meeting.
There is another volunteer with a business background who also is a
retiree from IBM that is hopefully going to aid with the marketing and
packaging of our finished product for distribution and building
infrastructure to the sustainability of student interships with an
advisory board. Also we have a team of 6 from the Graduate School of
LIbrary Science who will also be filling the gaps in certain areas.

Unfortunately Friday I will be unavailable for a meeting as I will be
meeting off campus with 3 different groups relating to computer
literacy and a few people who are going to help me with a grant as
well as a faculty brunch related to service learning -- So my Friday
is already kinda packed; however, if you all still would rather meet
on Friday, that would be cool, and if you wanted to use the space at
NCCU, that would be fine as well. Just let me know if this is an
option.

If Thursday still seems like a viable option, my availability is still
open at 2pm. I know getting everyone together may seem a daunting
task at times, but I feel if we can meet tomorrow, I can record some
of the technical aspects of the project and relay them to Renato for
answering. This group may be another venue to ask the technical
questions.

Hope to talk to everyone soon!
Calvin

Hi Calvin and Everyone,

About Anita, was just curiosity of my part. You have the luck to have available so many qualified professionals and
I'm sure that have more professionals that would join in the future to help us to develop this challenge.

I met with Calvin last Friday to let him know my feelings about the project. We discuss that is very important start as
soon as possible the development using Struts. Also, is very important apply some strategies there are inside the
Design Patterns. It's important because without good patterns we could stay trying resolve problems that was already
resolved. If we learned the correct way how use the correct patterns, it will give us more confidence that we are following the
right steps to implement this system. Calvin told there is a Professor specialist in Design Patterns that could help us. I know
some patterns like Singleton, Value Objects, DAO (Data Access Object) etc. Most of these that I listed could be replaced for better
patterns, we just need to know what is our problems to apply the correct one. It's no so easy to do but we need start.

About the meet, I have a couple of things to say. First, thank you Pratibha to trust in my knowledge to give you
some directions about the tecnology, despite all of you could discuss the project with the model elaborated by Pratibha.
This model is very helpful and you could use it to clarify some doubts that you have about the project, always following the
priority of development and no architecture, any more. Even if we make some mistakes of architecture now (and it's totally normal),
we could fix it meanwhile we are developing. The reverse is not true. In other words, if we stay discuss just about architecture and
don't start the development soon, will be very very difficult reach our goals. I'm telling these thing with my own experience that
I have with projects. If somebody desire to say something, feel free.

I also now that in a team that work in a full-time project, the best strategy is to organize first and to develop after with
good methodologies very well defined. Unfortunately, it's not our case.

Maybe there are some inconsistencies when I talked about development first even if we don't have defined the correct Design Patterns yet. My idea is use this first version to help us clarify what the better pattern for our problems. Once defined, we could make a refactoring in the
code to write the system with the correct patterns.

I agree with Calvin said about have the meeting without me and after you would send message for this group and all of us could discuss.
I will stay more than happy to try clarify all the doubts that you have.

One more time, my apologizes for my appointments.

Thank you so much.

Best regards,

Renato.

 Hello everyone,

Sorry, I didn't introduce myself earlier.  My name is Anita, and I'm really excited to be a part of this project.  I'm a SAS programmer by trade, and I've taken a few classes in the past in Java (which was an introductory class and I honestly haven't used it in years) and Oracle (which I'm working towards a certification in).  So, I am, in essence, a novice to this type of work, but I'm willing to work really hard because I think I will learn a lot and also because it's such a worthy project to work on.

Sincerely,

Anita

Hi my friends,

Nice to meet you Anita and welcome to the project. I'm sure that all of us will make a honorable job for these students that need
our help with this project. At the same time we will learn a lot with each other. I'm actually learned with all of you.

For me is fine meet tomorrow. Just let me know ok?

Anyone could give me some information about the meet today, if you had it?

Thank you,

Renato.
