Summary discussion 08/04/05

Thank you Bineeta, Pratibha, and Christine for coming in today. I
really feel like we have the ball rolling now.
In summary, I just want to recap what we went over and give Renato
information to where we are at.
Here is a short list of what we briefly went over:
1. new implementation, mysql with jsp/j2ee
previously mysql with php scripting
2. framework: struts, UML, and Use Case
3. Programs:
Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org/)
-good debugging program used in Java development
Gantt Project (http://ganttproject.sourceforge.net/)
-project managment program that will be utilized for managment of
tasks
Tomcat (http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/index.html)
-servlet container that is used in the official
ReferenceImplementation for the Java Servlet and JavaServer Pages
technologies (from site)
4. Identifying problems with current implementation, Microsoft Access.
It was expressed that we need to streamline this database for now so
that operation can be smooth when students arrive in a few weeks.
(Calvin)-would like feedback from Renato as well. Here are some steps
generated by our meeting today.
1a-Identify Master Table, find purpose
2a-What are the required fields in the master table, find purpose
for each
3a-What sub-tables are required for operation, find purpose for
each
4a-What are the required fields in the sub-tables, find purpose for
each
5a-What tables can we remove
6a-What tables do we need
7a-What tables can/should we add
8a-The problem with Social Security Number and how exposed that is;
we also discussed how that can be
5. Desired areas of interest for working, design versus development.
All expressed interest in both sides, including myself, but if you
could send which is the most interest and/or background that would be
beneficial for assignments.
6. Christine, Pratibha, and Bineeta will all meet again in the office
August 16th, and shortly after that, If you all could start thinking of
a good time that may work for everyone to meet.
We are now on the same page as it pertains to developing a mysql
database combined with jsp pages.
Please feel free to add anything I forgot about the meeting today or
add comments.
