Have two female Siberian Husky pups, 11months and 8 months old.

Looking to participate in sledding events in 2009, when our girls are
mature enough.

Have a keen interest in the Northern Breeds, esp. Sibes and
Malamutes.

Would love to own a Malamute or two, and sled with them too.

Hello all,

I am thinking of relocating to Dallas Texas.
Can anybody tell me if the climate in Texas is good for Malamutes.
I know it is quite warm, but so is South Africa.

Love to hear your responses,

Johan Harlarr

Hi Johan

I have friends living in Dallas Texas and from what I understand from them
it is the same climate there as in Pretoria.......slightly more humid, only
slightly. If they can relocate to South Africa then I don't see why Dallas
Texas would be a problem.

Good luck.

Johan,

You will find Alaskan Malamutes in every single USA State, obviously
because Alaska is from where they have originated.

You can work through Keringa Kennels, Kempton Park who are specialists
in exporting dogs abroad.

Regards.

Thanks for your input.
I wouldn;t want to leave Chewbacca behind.
I will soon post a picture of him.
He is so sweet .
Only still nervous with other dogs because of his attack.

Have a great weekend.

To all club heads (please forward to your members)

You may have noticed some recent press articles in respect of the
Governmental research process into the possibility of reintroducing
greyhound racing as a sport-cum-industry in South Africa. The University of
the Free State (Heading the research) have called for written inputs from
the public. We urge all persons to post their positive comments to Prof. E
Snyman-van De venter – This can be done via a postbox available on the
following website.

The website address is: www.greyhoundracingfacts.co.za
Prof Snyman –Van Deventer: snym...@ufs.ac.za

As you are all aware the law in question (ordinance no 4 of 1949) is the law
the NSPCA is currently applying to sledding to stop sledding in South
Africa. We would like all of the sledding fraternity (or any dog sport
member) to voice their opinions on the law in question (and possibly the
current abuse of the law) not necessarily their opinion on the greyhound
racing. It is not necessary for one to become involved in a debate on the
positive and negative aspects of greyhound racing but should focus on the
banning of “dog racing” and the negative effect it has had and can have on
many dog sports that could be unfairly put under this banner including:

Agility

Dog Jumping

Sledding

Carting

Sheep Dog Trials

Schutzhund Trials

Basically any timed event can be put into the category of “dog racing” as
the NSPCA sees fit. This has been shown to have happened by the NSPCA’s
actions
against Dog Sledding this year.

All comments must be short (max 300 words) and must have been submitted by
the end of October. Should there be any queries, please do not hesitate to
contact me.

Yours Sincerely

Cindy Foggitt

President, SAFSS
