Hi Johan. I bought Ta'iga from Shane (Kirsten, I think, will look it up
tomorrow) in Somerset West. I am just very concerned about Snow after
reading everything about hybrids! I will have to get him neutered to help
stop this madness, but will it also help with his behaviour when he gets
older? Will he be a better "dog" if he is neutered? What am I to do with
him? Wait four years till he gets out of hand? I already love him even if
all he wants from me is food!!!!! After I read WHATE, I am sure he has
quite alot of wolf in him. Is there not a way of making sure that it maybe
just seems that way? You have to look at all the ads off wolfhybrids on
Gumtree. There is a Alaskan Malamute also for sale (adoption) now for R500,
and if I was not as stupid to take a "wolf" in, I could have got myself a
decent dog now for next to nothing. I feel responsible for Snow now and
already have a very large male registered German Shepperd (who at this stage
keeps Snow in check), the not registered Mal pup (will also be neutered) and
a Jack Russel. We live on a farm and have always had 4 dogs, but that is my
limit. Lost a German Shepperd and Border Collie due to old age and hip
problems in the last year and would not have dreamed of having so much
trouble in replacing two wonderfull companions. My Malamute seems to be the
only right choice! Very clever, very obediant, never made one mess since
small puppy and even though she is still very small, she goes walking 10km
with me easily, afraid of swimming, but gets into a cano without hesitation.
She even is protective. And you must see her smile! Snow, who is twice her
age, seems to be following her example, let her eat with him and they play
endlessly. Both love stealing toiletpaper and tearing it up in the lounge!
If I knew better I would not have taken Snow in and rather got myself
another decent Mal, but what would have become of a wolf in a 2x2m vibacrete
backyard with a cement floor? At least he has a life now, even though mine
is alot more complicated.
