that would be great if you could take a picture of the printed information on the band heater at least one person needs to order one.

Herb and All,

Hello. I think I have found the heater band info. http://www.jobcosupply.com/catalog/product/13d20w120v250w10. Everything seems to match to the one I received. I am also currently taking photos of every thing I received so we might be able to compare components/missing parts. By the way, did yours come with a cooling fan? mine did not.

hope this helps,

Dave C

Hi,

the heater band has the following label on it:
JOBCO
BH 1011-02
250W 240V 7837

My package had a cooling fan, it is a "avant-garde 0.14A 12V" with side
length 80mm.

Hope that helps,
Thomas

Thomas,

It seems as though some may have received a 240V heater. Mine does say 120V on it. Also, the last numbers printed on it says 7838, not 7837. It will be interesting to compare how these different heaters perform.

Take care,

Dave C

A 240v heater will output 1/4th the rated wattage if run on 120v. (so 62.5w in this case)

A 120v heater will output 4x the rated wattage if run on 240v (so 1000w in the case)

Definitely do not do the latter. 250w is a lot anyway, if the PID controller fails actual temperatures could exceed 400C, resulting in thermal decomposition of the polymer and possible release of toxic fumes.

@Tim, I read you post again and realized what you said was the same as what I was thinking.

anyway I do think that 62.5 watts might be a problem because I have a 240V heater and am running it on 120V and when it runs more than several minutes the temp tends to drop the heater is on but it does not seem to keep up.

I have not seen it drop more than 3 degrees and I have the alarm set to +/- 5 degrees so it does not stop extruding but does load down the motor speed.

I am thinking that the 250 watts would speed the heating cycle and allow the controller to hold the temp better?

But I would like to hear your thoughts before I rip my whole machine apart to replace the heater.?

David,

haven't thought about that, but it does make sense that the heaters are
different for 240V and 120V usage.

Ok heres all I got from my kit.
I already know that I'm missing the printed spooler part that the white stoppers are attached to. So if anyone sees anything they have or is missing. Post it here.
Lets see if we can help those out that are missing parts..
