Exeter ‘s Financial Town Meeting is tomorrow evening, Tuesday, June
10th at 7:00 pm at the EWG High School auditorium. At the meeting
there will be a vote to increase the staffing budget for the library
16.38%. We are asking for this increase because we need it! With the
high cost of everything, traffic at the library has been increasing at
a rapid rate. The number of books checked out each month is also
increasing.
To ensure that we continue to provide the excellent customer service
and library services the community deserves, we need to increase the
number of hours the part-time library assistants work. It took awhile
to figure out the minimum hours we needed coverage, but we think we
can up with a schedule that best suits the public’s need. Even though
they do great work, we aren’t giving anyone a substantial pay increase
with that money.
We hope you will support us at the Financial Town Meeting. (Oh, by
the way, we will also be pointing out that the town of Exeter is also
receiving a 15% increase in the amount of money it receives from the
State of RI because of the continuous funding of the library.) If you
would like to receive more information, a sheet of “talking points”
will be available tomorrow by e-mailing

Summer Reading Program Sign-ups
Begin Tuesday, June 10th
Diane Silva, our Youth Services Librarian, will be visiting the
elementary schools this week to talk up our annual Summer Reading
Program. This year’s theme is “Catch the Reading Bug” and hopefully
your kids will be caught up in what Diane has to say and you’ll rush
right in to sign up. Programs for children and teens include a
reading component, Reading Buddies, performers, storytellers and other
activities. A full schedule of programs is available at the library
and will soon be on our website.
Sign up for our Summer Programs must be done in person.
