SUMMER HOURS
WE WILL BE CLOSED ON SATURDAYS IN JULY & AUGUST (except for July 19th)
Because we received a smaller increase in our staffing budget than we
requested, we are adjusting the library's schedule to make sure we
have enough staff at the times we need them. Saturday is traditionally
our slowest day (for example today we haven't seen any patrons for the
past hour and 1/2) so the least amount of library patrons will be
affected (the monthly book sales can go on as planned.)
RI Public Libraries need to be open a minimum number of hours during
the school year, so summer is the only time we can cut. It is an
inconvenience to some (especially the part-time staff affected by the
cut) but now we know we need to rally the troops for next year's
Financial Town Meeting.
CHILDREN'S SUMMER PROGRAMS
Sign-ups for our summer reading program and events started on June
10th. Information about all the summer programs is available on the
library's website and in the library. You must sign up in person for
the programs.
A special thank-you to Miss Diane for establishing such a good
relationship with the EWG schools and taking time out of her own
schedule to visit the schools and get the kids excited about the
library this summer.
CIVIL WAR LIVING HISTORY PROGRAM
Saturday, July 19th (yes, we'll be open)
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Spend the day with Battery B First RI Light Artillery, a Civil War
living history organization
that portrays an actual Rhode Island Artillery Unit. An authentic
Civil War camp will be set up on the grounds of the Library.
Uniformed soldiers and civilians will portray what everyday life was
like in the Union Army.
Free and open to the public
SUMMER READING BOOKS
We have borrowed copies of the EWG High School and Jr.High reading
list books from the High School again this year (again, thanks
Diane!) We have multiple copies of many of the titles, but you may be
put on a waiting list if you come in too late!
We do have most of the titles on the reading lists for the younger
students, but because they are "suggested" reading lists, we do not
have multiple copies of every title and have not pulled them out of
the regular collection. You may find yourself on a waiting list too.
COOKBOOK
You may have heard that we are collecting recipes for a cookie
cookbook. Well, once again we are extending the deadline, so please
bring some in before we resort to begging or copying out of Martha
Stewart's cookbook and using fake names.
ANNUAL FUNDRAISER
We are already planning our big raffle and annual fundraiser. If you
have a business or service and you would like to donate a prize to our
raffle, you can respond to this message. Prizes included items and
gift certificates last year. The raffle will begin August 11 and end
September 13th.
The fundraiser dinner will take place at the Quonset 'O' Club the
evening of Saturday, September 13th and include dinner, raffles and a
DJ.
If you would like to volunteer to help gather donations for the raffle
or help plan the dinner, please contact Amy or respond to this e-
mail. We had a lot of fun last year, so we are thinking this year can
be even better.
