Hi All

Its very uncommon to find new bugs features in excel for it has been around for so long. Recently my friend Mukesh brought this strange query in Excel to me and I was puzzled & to some extent amazed as I had not seen anything like this before read on.....

Normally when we merge 2 or more cells the merged cell can contain only one value which is saved in the top left corner cell of the merged range.

Example:

If I merge A1:I1 The whole range becomes a single cell and excel refers to this Cell as A1.

Now I write 999 in cell A1 and the merged range shows 999

Now if you try to write a formula in cell B3   =B1   I will get 0 as the excel has saved the value 999 only in cell A1 and not B1

Same is the case with cells C1 to I1.

Go ahead and try this out if you did not know this.

Now see the attached file; the formulas in row A3 refer to a merged range A1:I1 and shows 999 as this is the value in A1. But look at the cells in B3:I3 they show different values....

Can someone explain to me how this is achievable in Excel :))   [Note: No macros, no Addins were used & feel free to Google for solution and try your luck]
