I know that they are still in pre pre production and that some
directors on a shortlist are currently being approached. They are
apparently all A-list guys, but no one knows who they are.

Who would be the best director to assign to the project?

My personal vote would be for Quentin Tarantino. His style perfectly
suits the mood of EVA. He will be able to remain true to the spirit of
non-commercial Japanese film and still make it accessible to
westerners. Every time I see the "Episode 01 - Angel Attack" title on
screen that cuts to Sachiel laying waste to Tokyo-3, I think of
Tarantino. The music and everything just fits him. IMHO anyway. What
do ya'll think?

Tarantino couldn´t be a good choice, his experience with special
effects hasn´t the level to such a huge sci-fi project.

Maybe Sam Raimi could do a good work, his last spiderman movie was
acceptable also i want to see the work of Darren Aronofsky (Pi,
Requiem for a Dream) with the new Batman movie, if he do a good job i
could propose him for the director seat.

the battle royale director would be my first choice. unfortunately, he
passed away some time ago and from what i've heard about BR 2, his son
hasn't inherited the ability! a japanese director WOULD be great though.

YES! Takashi Mike, excellent choice to bring out the true level of
mindfuck that this series has given me.

THere will not be any wachoskis brothers touching EVA. Those so called
directors ruined what the Matrix was, with such sterotypical money
making hollywood flicks known as reloaded and revolutions.

Just because they made one good movie (Matrix) and released the
Animatrix, they'll turn it into another overblown cashcow with no
story.

And plus... Didn't Matt say that he wanted to write a script that
leaves room for sequals and doesn't end like the Matrix reloaded? That
is a hint also that they wouldn't pick the Wachoski brothers.

Ahhhhhhhhh.......

I love Tarantino, but I don't know about him working on Eva. I would
have more faith in it if I knew he was in charge, but I would really
like to see a Japanese director. If Tarantino directed it, he'd
probably cast Uma Thurman as Ritsuko or something.

smith and neo are the same they became one and the
same if one wins they both die each is an expretion of
the other they are a spectrum but i guess the
complecated stuff seems to confuse you and you see the
bigger picture of things so you call it a hollywood
movie oh blame it on the jews right open your fucking
mind and blame it on your lack of understanding but oh
well evangelion will fail just another hacked up movie
if you change something slitly from the original its
bad i mean take the fiirst metal gear game for the ps
when it came to gamecube there where slit changes and
it was horrable the same will happen unless anno
directs the move or someone with the same vision i say
fuck the masses those who understand evangelion
shouldnt have a say in it or watch it because they
will get confused so in stead of making a crapy genric
movie make one for the fans and from what ive seen its
vest hell i live norway and know alot of ppl who are
into it the mass oublic is ignorant and weak fuck them all

excuse me but fuck off i DID see all that but that doesnt change the
fact that neo DID win and smith lost . the way you worded that
sujjests that eitherway the ending would of still happened ! . i dont
want to guess at what would have happened and quite frankly i dont
care but it still doesnt change the fact that r&r were shit films.

I understood the matrix films and philosophy very well thank you and
lived religions for 4 years waiting for the sequals to come out, just
like I am waiting for the EVA movie and I won't let EVA be ruined as
the matrix was. oh... and sure if you dig deep in the shit pile that
reloaded and revolutions is you'll find an interesting story. But it
didn't have to be baried so f**ken deep in horse shit to begin with. I
am not going to turn this topic in to the matrix so lets end it at
that.

no matter how or by who eva will be crap as long as
its for the masses its that simple very simple like
the fact if neo did beat the first smith he would have
evantuly becuse he had a whole city of smiths to fight
each apperantly just as strong as the first but he is
still only human in the end

Heh, I hope I don't get killed for this. I felt Peter Jackson did an
incredible job making Lord of the Rings into a vastly popular trilogy,
I think he'd be great for the job.

as far as i know anno and jackson are definitely not directing but hopefully
anno will be on board in an advisory capacity (producer/exec producer?). as
far as the ditrector is concerned, they will probably choose a japanese or
US director who has some connection with ADV.

crappy action those movies where nothing like the book

heh well i'm glad someone can at least back me up :)

ehh...i havn't heard that he won't be doing it. Do you remember where
you saw that? I think it would be a pity if he didn't he captured
everything about LOTR amazingly well...casting, effects, design... and
best of all, he kept to the story almost perfectly.
And turner theres absolutly no need to turn this into a flame spree...

i have to agree with you there. it's a pretty safe bet that if we're major
fans of eva it's unlikely that we're only into 'crappy action' films.
anyway, i stil think that the director will be ADV-related. what about the
director of farscape? maybe it's a bit of a silly example, but since
farscape is distributed by ADV its former crew may be on board for ELAM.

in the eva.trivialbeing.net facts section under the faqs :
3. Who is directing the movie?
No director as of yet. It will not be Hideaki Anno or Peter Jackson.
sucks doesnt it :/

ahhh well that just kills my hopes -.- oh well theres always the chance
they'll find someone that no one has ever heard of before and he'll do
an amazing job. I personaly havn't heard of Peter Jackson before LOTR,
then again I'm not that into directors... anyways I wonder why he won't
be making it... you know?

James Cameron lmfao why do you ppl want eva to be
action when the action in eva is clearly second it was
stated in the first ep it should be a team of dirctors
not one one for the psyhcology, one for the kabbalahic
ref and last for action not just one type of dir for
the whole movie thats why most movies fail if its a
team they can colborate the best shots and outcomes
for the secne that way keeping it in line with the
theme with in the action religion and mind set of life
all in all if its pointless action without an ingenus
plan like eva is suppose to be

So that's a no, I guess...

Certainly you have second unit directors etc, but many hands spoil the
broth. You need one person, two at most, to drive such a project. And
he/she/they should be accountable to the producers that determine what
the movie should and should not be about..

What about Ang Lee?
