I had the opportunity to visit Ato Alemayehu and Ato Daniel at ERA.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that a research conference is scheduled to open in just two days. I look forward to attending the conference.

Hello, Fellow EEO's

I met Abas, who teaching and doing graduate work at Bahir Dar University, at the confernce.  He is in need of simulation software.  I suggested TRANSIMS , an open source tool.  Rahel may be able to help him with the UWISCONSIN if they have collaboration access on acquiring VISSIM .  He has access to a student version.

We can also add him to EEO mailing list.

I am enjoying the conference.  I found  highly professional, educational,  practical and informative presentations.  Just finished lunch. Going in for the afternoon sessions.

Alazar,  i will try to write bits and pieces before i forget.

One of the key contacts i met was Eng. Tesfaye Werkineh,  president Ethiopian Association of Civil Engineers (EACE) .

One of the presentations at the Road Research conference was about safety on the Addis-Adama Expressway.

Attached is crash statistics from 2007 to 2010 on the roadway.

One of the recommendations from the researcher was to conduct Road Safety Audit (RSA).  I believe the RSA question was raised four years ago and Engineer Hiwot had suggested that should be done as well.  One of the items that we have failed to follow up.

I suggest that EEO in coordination with ERA and other stakeholders (such as AAIT and EACE) conduct a workshop on RSA (before the end of 2018 or early 2019 ) and as part of the training an RSA be performed on the expressway.  A culture of safety is to be incorporated in the planning, engineering, operations and maintenance of the work and as the developed nations strive towards vision zero let us also join the chorus, "one life lost is too many."
