Bicycles were a major mode of transportation in the early 1900s.
However, bicycle sales decreased disastrously in the U.S. due to the
Great Depression. People were hesitant to buy bicycles, then
considered as luxury items. It was time for a change and F.W. Schwinn,
president of Arnold, Schwinn & Co., decided to innovate. Thus, the
first cruiser, “Schwinn B-10E Motorbike,” was designed and developed
in 1933!

Cruiser was a sturdy bicycle that came at an affordable price. The
newest of features were provided in the cruiser, including top class
tubes, balloon tires, and a heavy cantilever steel frame. This was
especially suited for the teenagers who could ride over curbs and pass
through bumpy roads and potholes without the fear of a damaged rim or
a flat tire. The design was so popular that almost every other bicycle
company was trying to ape it.
