Hi John...So glad to get your email....I have searched and searched for someone with epilepsy who was on Klonopin and having withdrawals. Could find no one. I was thinking maybe they don't want to say they have epilepsy, have to take klonopin no choice, don't want to face it or don't understand what is happening. I know for a couple of years I was in withdrawal from Klonopin and didn't know that is what it was. I have epilepsy (complex partial seizures), had a hysterectomy, and been taking klonopin for 10 years. The withdrawel symptoms I was having could of been caused by any of these. It was only getting worse. Finally I started reading about Klonopin and found the Benzo UK forum. I realized then I was in withdrawal from Klonopin. I was first given ativan at least 10 years ago to take only when I had cluster seizures. Not to take more than three days. At the same time I was having trouble
sleeping. When I saw how they knocked me out and I could sleep I started taking them every night. Went from .5 to 1.5mg. Changed drs. two and half years ago when I moved from Texas to Colorado. I told my dr. here in Colorado I started taking them every night. She kept refilling them. From what I understand most drs do not have the understanding or whatever their reasons are that benzo's are very addictive. Klonopin being one of the worse. Do you believe you are having Klonopin Withdrawals? What symptoms are you having? Email me and tell me a little more what your experiencing. I've read the Ashton's Manual on the internet. Took it to my neurologist. Told her I wanted off Klonopin and wanted to do the taper that was recommended. I was supprised but she agreed to let me. 1mg of Klonopin = 20mg of valium. I had tried to taper just from Klonopin and got to .25 and it was
terrible. I could not do it so I went back to 1mg. I did the taper from Klonopin cross over to valium. As of 27th I took the last of the Klonopin. I am now on 20mg valium which has only been five days. valium has a much longer life than klonopin which stays in you much longer. Valium taper is much smoother to taper from without feeling like your going crazy. I will stay at 20mg (which this is my 5th day to only be on valium) for a couple of weeks let the klonopin get out of my body and then once I feel stable will begin my taper from valium. Slowly...It will take a while but well worth it than trying to go off Klonopin by itself. Lots of people call it Klonopoison. If you have any questions email me. Let me know your situation and I'll help if i can. So glad to hear from you...dianne
