Hello Andrew,
This is Stacy Meyers, Peggy Reeves' granddaughter. I am e-mailing you today to let you know of a volunteer opportunity at the Barataria Preserve, part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. On Saturday, September 24, the National Park Service celebrates National Public Lands Day, a day of community service in the National Parks. This year, we are going to be working on trail maintenance, invasive plant species removal, and trash clean-up. Due to safety concerns, we have to limit the ages of the volunteers to 11 and up and all youth participants under 18 must be accompanied by adults. We ask that participants arrive for 9 in the morning at the Visitor Center; the work projects will last from 10:00 to 12:00 and then there will be a 1 hours wrap-up session. The day will be over by 1:00 p.m.
I would be greatly appreciative if you could inform your area's troops and crews about this event. We are ideally located for West Bank troops to do a few service hours and knock out badges requirements that ask the scouts and venturers to visit a National Park. I have attached the program flyer as well as some other forms to be filled out for all youths and adults who would like to participate. I am trying to spread the work among the scouting community that we have lots of opportunities for troops and packs at the Preserve and this will be an ideal introduction to their park.
