No Response From Unit When Using Remote Control

My ME1 suddenly stopped responding to the remote control. Changed the
battery etc.but still no joy.
I'm trying to check whether it's the unit or the remote that's faulty.
Can anyone suggest how I can check?

do you have a camcorder or webcam you can point the remote at? you
will see the led illuminating if you do.

My ME1 crashes from time to time.
I would take the power out of it for 30 seconds and re power it to check.
