Hi everyone
I've had my ME1 for about a year now and generally been very impressed
with it, especially the latest firmware update which fixed a problem I
was getting with some recordings from my Sky+ box that would just stop
after a few minutes for no good reason. The new firmware also
improves the menu navigation and the quality of the Component video
output, and enables you to use NTFS disk partitions, so generally all
good.
However, I have a problem getting it to browse over the network, am
probably missing something really obvious - I've only just got it
wired up to my home LAN and it seems to be talking to my router OK - I
can see its IP address in the DHCP client table and so on, but
whenever I create a network shortcut with the IP address of my "server
pc" and use the logon credentials it just times out with "Logon
Failed" and will not connect to my PC. What have I missed? I've
tried using two different user logons from the PC and both do the
same. Do you have to set up a dedicated user account on the computer?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
Cheers

Hi Rod,

Have you set your network up as "shared" network?
Under Windows XP go to "My Network Places" - use "Set up a home or
small office network" (if you haven't done so already) and follow the
steps on the wizard.
At the end you need to go to your Windows Explorer (not Internet) and
got to the folder you want to share / be able to view on your ME1.
Then click the right mouse button, use "Sharing and Security" and use
"Share this folder on the network".
Now reboot your ME1 and see, if you are able to view the Network
shared folder.
Another point to check is if you have any firewall running within
Windows.

Try and see, if that will help you.

Hi

Sorry for slow come-back on this thread, been a busy few weeks.
Anyhow, thanks for your suggestions, however I've tried a number of
things now and on reflection have concluded that I must have a faulty
network connector or circuit in the ME1 :( When I insert an ethernet
plug (and I've tried several cables now) the lights on the socket
don't always come on and you have to j-j-j-jigle the plug to get it
working, but if you move the unit and the cable moves slightly the
connection goes again. This may or not be indicative of a bigger
problem, but either way I have to resolve it and get a reliable
network connection before I can troubleshoot network permissions
properly, so I'm waiting for an opportunity to swap units with my Dad
who has one also and try it again. Unfortunately we're out of
warranty now so no good sending back to Maplins - just hope my Dad's
one works OK!

Cheers
