The reason I ask is because the new DivX firm is released and it
supports .mkv and x264 files and was wondering if I will be able to
watch these files on the ME1 unit.

I doubt you can do that just because ME1 is not powerful enough to do
software decode of x264.
However, if it's DivX codec is used for .mkv, you can try change the
extension name to AVI for playback.

The codec will be a form of h264, x254 is the open source version and
is far superior.
But as previously stated the ME1 is not powerful enough to decode the
file and have playback at a descent rate.

Hi guys thanks for the replies! That' a shame, I too originally didn't think the ME1 was powerful enough, guess I  was expecting too much....  The problem is so many movies now come in the .mkv format- guess ill need to learn to how to convert the .mkv container to .avi and .mp3 first before uploading it to the ME1.

The only way people could do this is with a transcoding server as x264 will not work on the ME1!
If xvid is contained in an mkv then it is possible but this is very rare if not stupid.

The answer is to download films in xvid as opposed to x264, downloads are smaller, bandwidth required is less!

That's what I have implemented...streaming from PC through Transcode
server to ME-1.

There is a guide on the other forum

There is a big difference in quality viewing a 720P vs an normal avi
(which are usually <300 vertically). But, for the sake of
downloading, avi's are quicker. I often get a 700MB movie down in
<2hrs on a 20 Mbps line
