Can a Universal Remote be used with the ME1 or what can be done if the
original remote is broken or lost?

Tom

Hi Tom,
In also asked this question some months ago in the forum.
So far, no response from anybody or from the manufacturer.
My question was also if anybody knew the code numbers.
Sorry that this doesnt help, but maybe you will have more luck than me and if so please copy me in.
Regards
Ralph

I can probably get the IR codes and header info from mine if you like?
Will have to find my IR block which is somewhere around here, this is only really usefull if you can build your own remote or have a PC or the like which can transmit the codes.

Danny

Hallo Danny,
That would be excellent, I understand the bit about IR code but what is the header.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Well the IR protocol that is used in almost every IR equipment has a set of codes that follow a header.
The header determines which piece of equipment or which protocol get listened to.
The codes I can give you wont be able to be entered into a universal remote I doubt, unless it has some kind of proper manual entry.

It would be easier to get a replacement from emprex, I think  a load got imported or something a while back.
Check with maplin to see if they can get you one.

Hi Danny,
I will give Maplins a try, my idea was to use a spare Sky remote which will take manual entry by using the tv button.
Thanks

Danny,

Couldn’t these codes be entered in a Universal Remote or couldn’t a Universal Remote somehow “learn” the codes if I have one and try to program it to match the Emprex ME1 remote? (I know the garage door opener built into my car has a learn mode where I point the garage door opener that came with the house and it then “learns” what it must send to open the garage door?)

Most universal remote controls have a library of codes that it can produce, these are usually written down in the manual for the remote.
If the remote doesn't have the particular code set (In this case emprex) then it cant control that device.
It might be the case that the emprex control uses another common set, quite a lot of cheap remote controls use the same chip sets to encode the button presses.

I will get the codes down and have a search on one of the lirc (Linux IR control) databases to see.

Nice one Shadow, so does this mean that I can get a Universal remote
and somehow program it manually using the codes you posted? Any
suggestions on which remote is the ideal one to get?

Thanks!

I've managed to get a cheap Gemini universal controller to partially
work with the ME1. I used the code search facility and manually
stepped through the various codes until I managed to get the device to
switch off.

Can't get all the functions to work as yet, so I suspect that the code
I'm using is not an exact match for the IR protocol. However, it does
look as though a universal remote could be used if set up correctly.

The logitech harmony remotes support the me-1 out of the box. I have a
harmony one and i works perfectly, in fact much better than the
original due to the enhanced power of the IR signal.

Paul,

That is great news! Do all the Logitech Harmony remotes work? There seem to be quite a few models 550, 670, 880 etc. at varying prices

They have an online database you can search, to check support.
