Loading new firmware

Hello their,
I am new to the forum. I recently purchased my ME1 last
weekend from Maplin and I extremely pleased with it. I was browsing
this forum and looking at certain threads, and ones that particularly
caught my attention was about firmware up grades. Today I down
loaded :-www.emprex.com/var/download/MEC_P0.31.K1.b6_USB_InstallAP.zip
and moved the file over to my flashdrive. To be perfectly honest I am
not that clued up with computers, and more or less picked it up as I
have gone along and listened to other peoples advice on the subject. I
read a thread on this forum on how to load the ME1 with this new
firmware. Firstly I disconnnected the power to it, inserted my
flashdrive with the updated firmware and turned the unit back on. All
it said was 'system loading' for about half an hour, although not
quite sure as to what I was doing. After half an hour, not being quite
sure whether the new software had taken or not, I turned the ME1 back
off and removed the falshdrive, I then turned it back on. Nothing had
changed, even the films I had put on it were still their so I am
assuming it didn't work. So although it might appear I am running
before I can walk, Firstly, being recently that I have just purchased
it, would I need to upgrade the firmware, and secondly If I do,
because I have read that so many users have commented how better it
is, how do I up load it. and finally, is their any way of telling
which software version it has. I apologise in advance if I am missing
the obvious but I am a novice at all this, if any body could put me on
the right track it would be very much appreciated, many thanks, Jason.

I guess you miss important part of step, Press power button
immediately after plug in power.
You should read the instruction first, follow every step.
